Today, I am participating in not one, but TWO blogfests! For the Deja Vu blogfest, please click here.
Hobbit Fest is hosted by the lovely Tyrean Martinson at Tyrean's Writing Spot and M. Pax at Wistful Nebula in celebration of the movie!
Unless you're new to my blog, you probably know what a huge LOTR dork I am. I've seen each movie several times in theaters, own all of the extended versions, and even drove to Boston to attend the film exhibit when it was at the Museum of Science.
It was such a fun experience! They had a bunch of the weapons on display, including Gandalf's staff, and many of the costumes. My favorite was the chainmail (pieced together by HAND) and Galadriel's long white dress. And do you remember the scene where they send Boromir's body over the falls in a boat? That mannequin was there too. Amazing! I wish I had pictures to share, but unfortunately, cameras weren't allowed in the exhibit hall.
The Hobbit was one of my favorite books growing up and I'm pumped to see it come to life on the screen.
For the blogfest, we have to answer four questions, so here goes!
What is your favorite hobbit characteristic/or the one that you think closely resembles you . . .?
Out of all of the inhabitants in Middle-Earth, the hobbit is my favorite. I don't want to be an elegant elf or a warrior princess ... I'd want to be a HOBBIT. I want to live in a comfortable hobbit-hole with a big round green door and a garden. I like the quiet life... although, like Bilbo, I'd be one of the strange hobbits who wouldn't mind a taste of adventure every now and then. But my favorite hobbit characteristic is that they love to eat, because I love to eat, too!
If you could choose between a scrumptious second breakfast and a perilous unexpected journey – which would you prefer?
I want both, but if I have to pick one, I'll go with the perilous unexpected journey. Seems to me like that would be something that would come along once in a lifetime, whereas a second helping of pancakes and bacon could happen any time (and, in fact, does happen. A lot).
Have you ever left behind something on a journey (expected or unexpected) and wished you could have it over and over again? (a pocket handkerchief?)
I can't say that I have. I take good care of my stuff and rarely lose anything important. I think I do remember leaving behind a brand-new bag of caramel Chex Mix at the airport once, and that was pretty sad, because caramel Chex Mix is the bomb.
What is your Favorite part or quote from the book that you hope will be in the movie?
I have many, many favorite quotes, but I love the dwarves' song: "Far over the misty mountains cold / To dungeons deep and caverns old / We must away ere break of day / To seek the pale enchanted gold." And I know for a fact it's in the movie because I heard it in the trailer! *goosebumps*
What are your favorite Hobbit quotes? Are you going to see the movie? If you also participated in Hobbit Fest, please let me know in the comments so I can go read your responses!

Happy blogfesting.
Yvonne.
I can't wait to see the movie. My favorite line is "it's a dangerous business going out your front door." I used to quote it to my kids when they were younger and were going somewhere.
I've always wanted to be Goldberry. She and Tom Bombadil have always fascinated me.
I'm looking forward to the songs too.
Awesome posts! I am so, so excited about The Hobbit. Like you, it was one of my all-time favorite books growing up. And like you, I'm so excited for the dwarves' song!
When I was a kid and teenager, I was all about being a warrior princess (go Eowyn!), but I think I'm definitely more hobbit-like now - though still with that zest for adventure, as long as I can come back to my comfortable home (or the Last Homely House - I'd settle for Rivendell) at the end!
That you missed a bag of Chex mix is funny! And seeing the exhibit must've been awesome.
I'm looking forward to seeing the film version of The Hobbit. I really like Martin Freeman. I saw in the Sherlock Holmes TV show, and I think he makes a really good Watson too.
Haven't seen the film yet, but I'm looking forward to it. And I think you're right - I'd rather be a hobbit too. They have the best lifestyle :)
Happy HObbitfest! I didn't see that trailer. Bummer. I'm sure I can find it on the internet.
Loved the way they did the dwarve's song in the movie!!! It was awesome! And I've always liked Hobbits best too. When a friend of mine asked if I was dressing up as an elf for the midnight movie showing, I laughed . . .partly because I doubt I could pull off an elf costume because I'm shaped a bit more like a Hobbit, but also because I would much rather be a Hobbit than an elf.
The movie is wonderful - different than I expected in some scenes, but wonderfully done!
Hi Julie - you'll love the movie - I saw it last night ... great fun. I must read the book - I struggled with it .. now perhaps I can visualise what Tolkien was getting at ..
Cheers and have fun when you get to see it .. Hilary
That's my favorite quote from The Hobbit, too! I'm exciting to see the film, and I just found out today that's in the first part in a planned trilogy. Exciting!! I'm looking forward to how it's all going to work and what elements from Tolkien's appendices they'll include.
I'd definitely want to be a hobbit. I love the Shire! But I also love Rivendell and wouldn't mind going on a perilous adventure to end up there for a nice visit. :)
We're the same on 1 and 3.
And that is really sad about the carmel chex mix.
My favorite part is the end with Thorin and Bilbo saying their goodbyes when Thorin was dying. A very touching scene.
I'm #7 on the linky list:)
Love your list. I've decided I would pack that second breakfast to take on the journey!
I don't remember leaving anything behind, either, but a crit partner of mine showed up at a meeting telling us she left the chocolate frogs she bought us at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in her hotel room. I've never quite recovered from that. :)
Great answers! I can't wait to see this movie.
Awesome answers! Hobbits have the best lives.
I'll live in Hobbiton with you! Just an adventure or two thrown in for excitement. Love the dwarves' song.
Oh yay hobbits! Oh I am so hobbit happy!!! the movie wasn't perfect but I still loved it. The dwarves cracked me up. And I think the scene with Gollum and Bilbo was even BETTER Than the book. And Martin Freeman did an amazing job. Amazing.
I am a total Tolkien fanatic too. Those four books are my most beloved and I think always will be. I went to the midnight showing of the hobbit - so much fun to be a in a rowdy crowd who totally "got" the story and cheered a lot!
I keep stumbling on these posts and I haven't read or watched LOTR yet. I need to remedy that.
Oh gosh, not sure I could EVER give up a second breakfast. Seriously. That's how much I love it!
Happy Hobbiting! :)
